Isles Field Barn Bed and Breakfast

It is that time of year again with the  Blackpool Illuminations already switched on. They are 10 kilometers long using over one million light bulbs and are a truly marvelous spectacle. This spectacular seaside town is still buzzing with fun and excitement long after other seaside towns have gone into their winter hibernation. One way to see the illuminations at their best is to travel down the prom on an illuminated tram. We still have limited availability for some weekends and in half term so why not book a mini break and have some family fun.

Buzz of excitement mounts in Longridge as it is less then four weeks to the arrival of the  Tour of Britain. The famous yellow bicycles abound. It is Stage Two of the race that visits Longridge on Monday 7th September. An excellent opportunity to secure some superb vantage points to watch this race go by taking in the spectacular scenery of the local area and opportunities to sample the delights of the local hostelries.

Recently the Queen visited the City of Lancashire and also  the Duchy of Lancaster including  the Equestrian centre at Myerscough. But where did she have lunch? Well down a short private track just past Myerscough College is a little known rural cafe called Light Ash. It only opens Thursday to Monday inclusive and is well worth a visit. It offers a wide menu choice from coffee and cake to very substantial main courses. It is certainly well worth a visit even if only to take a photograph of the array of cakes available! It comes highly recommended . Couple this with one of our lovely breakfasts for a truly memorable short break.

On the 1st August 2015 Garstang Show will celebrate its 200th anniversary. This extremely popular one day show promises to be even better. They will welcome Squibb Freestyle, the no1 FMX stunt display team where Jamie will perform some world class stunts. There is also a new covered area for kiddies events and attractions. The Light Horse Committee can also confirm that many events are qualifying events for the Horse of the Year Show. Plus many more old favorites or new attractions  All in all it promises to be a wonderful family day out.

Cats the award winning musical returns to Blackpool fresh from the London Palladium. It begins a strictly eight week run from the 9th July at the Blackpool Opera House. One of the longest running shows at the West End and Broadway it has been seen by over 73 million people and enchanted audiences in over 300 cities around the world. Now you too can enjoy the spectacular musical score, stunning costumes and breathtaking choreography. Visit Britain has just tweeted that tickets are available from £20 and only half price for children for Tuesday and Thursday performances only. This sounds like a bargain and a good excuse for a mini break combining  lovely countryside with a trip to the sea.

Clitheroe is once again gearing up for its annual extravaganza of food and fun. Summer is festival time in Clitheroe with one of the biggest and best food events in the North West. last year around 20,000 people visited the town’s food festival and this yea a similar number will be expected. The big day itself is Saturday August 8th. World cuisine is the theme this year so visitors can expect to sample chef demonstrations,street food,a fun fair,archery and plenty of good Lancashire produce. clitheroe is the centre of one of the most affluent areas of Lancashire. This area is prime farming country and has some of the prettiest villages in the North West. There are also so many good pubs that you can get quite heady just trying to count them. This is an area of the country which really justifies a visit at any time of the year.

A lovely day out in the country. Enjoy all the simple pleasures of a one day agricultural show. However there are also lots of other  interesting places to visit in the surrounding area and lots of lovely places to eat and drink. Preston Caribbean Festival is probably the biggest party Preston will host this year and will expect about 15,000 visitor to join in the fun. Celebrating the flamboyant Caribbean culture with in the town it is a great free day out for all. Beginning at 12 noon from Moor Park it progresses around Preston Centre making its way to the Flag Market and then returns to Moor Park.

Stage Two  of this years Tour of Britain has been described by the race director as an ” Ardennes Classic”  and will encompass Clitheroe, the Ribble Valley and Colne. Riders will not like tackling the Nick of Pendle almost from the gun but the twisty roads and scenic route should be good for spectators who should be able to view the race from a number of vantage points. It also passes through Longridge which is only 4 miles away from Isles Field Barn. We are also 100 yards from the Lancashire Cycle way and have already welcomed several dedicated cyclists on their journey of Land’s End to John O’ Groats. We have under cover facilities for parking bikes and will dry wet clothes after a challenging day. check out availability on the web site.

The next Chipping Steam Fair will be held on the weekend 23rd, 24th and 25th May opening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The event will be held on the Green Lane Show  approximately 3/4 outside the village towards Clitheroe. This is a family fun day out with lots of attractions for all ages.
