The temporary exhibition of the Silverdale Hoard in the Museum of Lancashire has been extended until the the 12th April 2015. The Hoard consists of over 200 pieces of silver believed to date back to around 900 AD. This makes it the third largest silver hoard to have been found in this country so far. Admission to the Museum is free and is open Tuesday to Saturday 10.30a.m. to 5p.m. and Sunday twelve noon to 5p.m. Not withstanding the Silverdale Hoard, this museum is well worth a visit in its own right and an enjoyable way to spend some time during this cold season.
May I take this opportunity to wish all our guests past and future a Happy New Year. I have a little advance notice about the Lytham proms which has become so incredibly successful over the last five years. This year 2015 it is to be re-branded as the Lytham Festival and is to run for a whole week from 2nd to 9th August to create a bigger, bolder and more diverse event for the town. Tickets are already on sale for a couple of the events and some very complimentary reviews from last year are on ticket master. Obviously we still have some vacancies for these dates so a visit to the festival could be incorporated into other local events. Check out our on-line booking facility and make an early reservation.
The Ribble Steam Railway is running Santa Steam Specials again this year. They must have proved very popular last year because there is only limited availability on certain dates just before Christmas. Next year is the 10th anniversary of opening to the public and there is an exciting program of steam excursions and special events to watch out for.
Christmas nights at Barton Grange are for late night shopping and so much more. You can enjoy hotpot or a pulled turkey sandwich in the Riverside cafe. Take a stroll through the magical ” Walk of lights” through the outside plants area. Listen to the live music playing in the entrance way and perhaps book a photo opportunity in the snowglobe. If you’re young enough there are still some appointments available for a visit to Father Christmas. All in all a very memorable start to Christmas. Barton Grange is open for late night shopping between 4 pm to 8 pm until the 19th December.
The Christmas lights have been switched on, late night shopping has begun and from December most car parks in the city centre are free after 4 p.m. Look out for the Lancashire Christmas Market which begins on 13th December until the 4th January. There will be traditional style log cabins selling gifts and fresh local produce. Sample a mug of mulled wine or hot chocolate in the heated ” Merry Monk’s Tavern” and smell the chestnuts roasting. Alternatively take a turn on the ice at rink on the Flag Market. This coupled with the extensive range of high street shops prepare for Christmas the easy way. Stay overnight and sample our “all day breakfast” before setting out to tackle some more serious retail therapy round and about.
Just noticed that Travel Zoo have a special offer on at the Fusion Room in Preston The offer a six course taster meal for two for just under £50 including glass of
Prosecco looks like extremely good value for this well recommended restaurant owned and run by Russell Lee. A restaurant which gets the thumbs up from its local customers. Whilst the offer runs until February 2015 it does not appear to apply during December. Perhaps it would make a lovely Christmas present to be used during those unforgiving days in January and February.
This year Preston city centre will again be transformed into a brightly lit Christmas wonderland.
